Parts of the final state examination and its content

The final state exam is oral. Topics, knowledge of which is required, are posted on a website of the Department of Classical Studies (in Czech):
http://classics.phil.muni.cz/studium/pro-studenty.
At the master's exam, students should be able to independently compare individual ancient cultures and periods, to solve methodological issues and to know the ancient cultural heritage. Students draw three topics from the announced sets of topics that include the area of methodology, source studies and selected auxiliary sciences, the history of the field, history of the ancient Near East, India and China, history of ancient Greece, Rome and the intermediate period between Antiquity and the Middle Ages.
The students, who are following the completus study plan, also prove the capability of working with sources in the original (translation and interpretation; language is chosen according to the student's specialization; for compulsory portions of texts of selected ancient authors see the topics for the state exam at the website of the Department of Classical Studies).
Thesis defence takes place at a special date before the oral exam.
