In our study we focus on the knowledge-based reasoning, which we define as entailing the following subprocesses: representing, interpreting, explaining, predicting, evaluating, and suggesting alternatives to classroom situations. To explore this concept, we used a video-based e-learning environment (IRSE VideoWeb) to elicit prospective EFL teachers written responses to short video sequences from real lessons. These responses were analysed using qualitative data analysis with a concept-driven coding scheme. In concordance with previous research, the results suggest that prospective teachers comments tend to be more descriptive and evaluative and less interpretative or explanatory. The results are of significance as they inform the professional development of pre-service teachers. ER -
