Anotace
Ultrasound is commonly used in many scientific areas such as medicine, food industry or stomatology. Ultrasonic cleaning is these days commonly used for many different purposes. There are many advantages of using ultrasound, not only in chemistry, but also in teaching practical chemistry. The article explains what the advantages of ultrasound application are. Our research has shown that teachers missed material about sonochemistry and found most of them found the information in this paper useful. The article provides general introduction to sonochemistry and describes acoustic cavitation that is responsible for the sonochemical effect. The article further describes sonochemical experiments that take advantage of the effects of acoustic cavitation. Experiment described in the article can be carried out under mild conditions and are relatively safe. In other words, experiments that require extreme conditions (e.g. use of acid, high temperature, high pressure) can be effectively carried out using an ultrasonic cleaner (bath). With some experiments use can shorten the time of experiment or increase the yield of reaction. The article deals with use of ultrasound in teaching practical chemistry at different school levels. The article further provides experiment suitable for students of practical chemistry. The experiments are designed to be safe and easy to execute as they provide all important instructions. The experiments contain information about necessary equipment, working procedures and health and safety procedures.
