The intricate relationship between journalists and politicians is complex and dynamic, yet existing studies have largely overlooked the influence of emotions and gender identity within these interactions. Emerging research indicates that gender significantly affects the boundaries of journalist-political relationships, with female politicians often facing backlash for emotional expressions that male counterparts can benefit from. This study aims to fill this critical gap by examining how emotional expressions in politician-journalist interactions are shaped by gendered expectations, focusing on Austria and Czechia. We have just completed data collection and are now beginning the analysis of our findings, which is why we present this work as an extended abstract. This timely exploration seeks to understand the micro, meso, and macro influences on these dynamics, fostering engagement in the academic community regarding the increasing emotionalization of political discourse.
