Our firm-level analysis investigates whether participation in EU Cohesion Policy grant schemes translates into improved financial outcomes for beneficiary enterprises. The empirical setting focuses on Slovak companies awarded CP funding in the 2014–2020 programming cycle. We integrate administrative records on Cohesion Policy support with enterprise financial statements and additional firm characteristics from the Slovak Statistical Office. We apply propensity score matching to create a well-balanced control group of non-beneficiaries that mirrors beneficiaries’ pre-award characteristics and then quantify the Average Treatment Effect on the Treated.
