This thesis will try to elucidate the motifs and rhetoric strategies of the classical discourse on autism represented by three major scholars on this field whose works became iconic not just on the scientifical ground but also fuelled cultural imagination and public debates. By the means of critical discursive analysis, the thesis will track the hegemonic pathologizing narratives of autism which psychiatry has produced. The language of classical theories of autism is far from being a neutral description as it tries to present itself. It uses a variety of stigmatizing and dehumanizing metaphorical connotations and analogies causing epistemic violence on people with autism. These accounts show illustratively how the concepts of human and inhuman are being constructed within the sphere of biomedical approach embodied in psychiatry. Following the logic of neurodiversity argument, autism is presented here as a way to understand human diversity and emergency of new identities.
