This bachelor’s thesis, conceived as an extended position paper, focuses on Republic of China’s (Taiwan) relations with the European Union, which have historically remained limited by the One China Policy, despite considerable untapped potential. Recent developments, such as growing European scepticism toward China, efforts to reduce dependence on authoritarian regimes, emerging Indo-Pacific engagement, newly established partnerships between Taiwan and small EU member states or uncertainty in U.S.–China–Taiwan relations create an opportunity for Taiwan to expand its presence in Europe. Yet Taiwan’s current approach remains mostly reactive and opportunistic, lacking a clear, goal-driven strategy that reflects these changes. The thesis argues that Taiwan should adopt a more structured and regionally focused European policy, using its strong, value-based relationship with the Czech Republic as a starting point for broader engagement with the Visegrad Group, and, ultimately, the EU, while considering the limitations of such approach.
