The objective of this thesis is to perform a comparative linguistic analysis of the specific features of spoken football commentary on existing parallel texts in English and Czech, with the main focus on syntax. The parallel texts are taken from a computer game. The purpose of the analysis is to find out if and how these features are transferred from language to language and to help outline the main differences between Czech and English football commentary. In the first part, the classification of the in-game commentary translation is performed and its status as a translation validated. Next, the analysis of typical syntactic features of the register is carried out and the register-specific differences in the approaches of both languages are observed. Then, more general differences between the languages, both language-specific and culture-specific, are delineated for the register.
