The method of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) is still unknown to many teachers in the Czech Republic. Yet, it is believed to be one of the good ways to enhance knowledge of foreign languages among students. Therefore, this diploma thesis aims to explore the theoretical conception of CLIL method in general and also its practical application in the teaching process. The main goal of this work is to present various activities connected to music and thus suitable mainly for music lessons at lower secondary schools. Since the author of the diploma thesis is not an active teacher at the moment, the activities will be piloted with a group of volunteers. For the theoretical part the author intends to explore a number of textbooks dealing with CLIL in general as well as several scholarly articles focusing on more specific topics (CLIL in music lessons, CLIL in the Czech schools, etc.). The work will be divided into two main parts. The first part sets a theoretical background where the method of CLIL is explored both in general conception and with specific focus on music classes. The second part presents a series of practical activities for school lessons. In the theoretical part the qualitative method of research is used. The author supposes that the main outcome of the diploma thesis will be the activities which might be used in lessons. They will be primarily designed as CLIL activities for music lessons. This diploma thesis will hopefully provide some basic introduction of CLIL to teachers who are not familiar with this approach. Then, the thesis might also serve as a source of ready-made activities for teachers as well as inspiration for their own work. And lastly, the feedback from piloted lessons might bring some useful tips and suggestions for future improvement. I hope that this work might encourage teachers to try out the designed activities and discover at least some advantages the CLIL method encompasses.
