Attempts have already been made to assess the effectiveness of SRS for learning English. This paper takes an unconventional approach to the same task by making use of the text editor, Vim and of the language used for controlling this computer program. This language, while sharing an abundance of similar features with English is also a unique formal language. This makes proficiency in it easily and unambiguously testable. SRS suitability for learning Vim can therefore be precisely measured and through reasoning by analogy, justly suggests that this suitability can be applied to learning English as a foreign language as well.
