By this project the student will perform a comparative analysis on coeval urban population and countryside population. In more detail, the investigation will be focused remains from Videňská ulice (urban) and Dětkovice (countryside), both dating to the 11th century. The main aim of this research is to detect any potential difference or similarity among the two populations focusing, and, in particular, in identifying and interpreting health-related care provision and activity-related stress. To overall aim is to explore the life-style and potential biological evidence of inequalities in two different but coeval contexts.
The info about osteological profiles (sex, age, stature), which is functional to this research, will be collected from previous studies on these skeletal remains, or assessed in case of absence. A subsample of this collection will be analysed (minimum 40 remains per context).
To achieve the above-mentioned goals and tasks
1. The theoretical part of the thesis will be focused on in-depth bibliographic research and building of the knowledge to face the practical part of the dissertation.
2 To create a draft about the way in which the study will be conducted in consideration of the potentiality and possible limits of the analysis.
3 The practical research will be directed on the documentation of pathological conditions (Ortner, 2003; Waldron, 2009) including degenerative joint diseases (DJD) and other activity-related stress (enthesopathies) and trauma (Wedel and Galloway, 2013). It will be then calculated the “Index of Care” by a Web-based Application (Tilley and Cameron, 2014) which foreseen the possible implication of the disease if the disease might require care, and, in that case, the typology of care and the social implications.
4 The results of the paleopathology analysis and the Index of Care will be discussed to explore the lifestyle in both population and possible presence (or absence) of care and inequalities, then the thesis will be convey to the IS MU
