1. I would like to research reading skills in the English language classes and how there are taught. My bachelor thesis will cover important information about people with hearing impairment and their communication styles and reading skills in English language classroom. The last chapter will include a report of a research on the reality of teaching reading skills to pupils with hearing impairment in Czech primary schools.

Not only Czech authors, for example Horáková (2007, 2012) and Komorná (2008), but also foreign authors, e.g. Trezek and Paul (2010), Marschark (2007) focused on problems with reading of students with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic and internationally. The problems with reading for deaf pupils and students are attributed to lack of vocabulary, grammar and metaphorical expression knowledge. The problematic level of reading achievement of hearing impaired provably goes together with the early language development and the different modality of Sign language. For this reason, the researchers tried rewriting texts using pictures and adjusted vocabulary for deaf pupils and students to understand better.
All students in the Czech Republic including the hearing impaired must study a foreign language, e.g. English language, although most hearing impaired students have problems with Czech and some consider it their first foreign language. They begin learning the foreign language (usually English) usually at the second level of primary school. The foreign language instruction of the deaf usually focuses on vocabulary, grammar and reading and writing skills, mostly omitting pronunciation and listening skills. So I am interested in one part of skills – reading. As I said that deaf pupils always have problem with reading skills both in Czech and in English language.

3. Aim of my work will be divided into dominant and partial aims. The dominant aim will be to study reading skills instruction and compare it to theoretical foundations. The partial aims will be to research the approaches to reading skills, the process of reading skills instruction, the extent and frequency of reading skills instruction and the materials used.

4. The research will be conducted using a qualitative research approach. The techniques used for date collection will be observations during their classes and questionnaires with teachers. I will observe two or more classes where hearing impaired children are taught in English classroom and source information and quiz teachers about their classes.
