Prerequisites
The course is intended for deaf students who are fluent in Czech Sign Language.

Course objectives
In this course, the students will learn the basics of British Sign Language (BSL) and build their knowledge of BSL, reaching a roughly intermediate level. The course contains several units at different language levels (B1 to C1 according to SERRJ). Students will practise mainly their understanding of BSL.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to:
- to have a command of BSL;
- practise understanding of BSL (advanced);
- acquire the necessary basic communication skills in BSL, for example, when preparing for a study stay abroad.
Syllabus
  • The course is stored on the OpenMoodle platform (https://openmoodle.phil.muni.cz/). The students progress through the course and work individually on the assigned exercises. Once a fortnight they join an online consultation with the course tutor. The students are given the entrance password by their tutor after registration. The units are: All Five Fruits (B1 according to SERRJ) College (B1 according to SERRJ) Flu Jab (B2 according to SERRJ) Car Safety (B2 according to SERRJ) Deaf Studies (C1 according to SERRJ) In order to complete the course, you need to complete 4 units out of 5.

Assessment methods
There is no written exam at the end of the course. To successfully complete this course and receive credits it is necessary to: 1 self-study in the course regularly 2. submit all assigned tasks 3. take part in regular consultations (once in a fortnight)
