Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce and critically review selected core social institutions using basic theoretical and methodological tools of gender analysis. The gendered society and axes of its stratification, mechanisms of engemndering the institutions and their re/production are the core skills students learn to use in the semminars. The topics and institutions analysed in this term of the course (to be followed by GEN 106) are: Institutions and gender relations, Dimensions of gender, Gender relations and structures, Public representations of gender – media and language; the beauty myth and violence; Normativne social institutions: family, (hetero)sexuality, educational system, labour market
