- Abstract
- Practical training sessions in the First Aid course build upon the theoretical lecture block and are designed to practice and reinforce practical skills in providing first aid. The teaching is conducted through simulation scenarios, role-play, skills stations, and OSCE-based training. The exercises emphasise mastering core skills, the correct use of commonly available aids, and the development of teamwork abilities in acute situations.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the practical training, the student: Independently and safely performs basic assessment and manipulation of an unconscious patient. Applies head tilt, recovery position, and uses an isothermal Recognizes indications/contraindications for the use of commonly available aids/medications in the context of common conditions (insulin pen, EpiPen, glucometer, inhaler, nitroglycerin, ASA) and demonstrates their correct use.
Correctly applies a pressure bandage, tourniquet, and immobilization devices, evaluates their effectiveness and risks, and can estimate the severity of blood loss.
Initiates and maintains CPR in adults and children, including the use of an AED and coordination of multiple rescuers, all within the BLS/PBLS framework.
Handles assistance with out-of-hospital childbirth and provides care for the newborn after delivery.
Demonstrates a set of skills within simulation scenarios and OSCE training, including communication with the dispatcher and role-play models. - Key topics
- 1. Traffic accident, unconsciousness Training of the first contact with the injured using the three-step method (self-safety, communication, manipulation with an unconscious patient by one or two rescuers). Turning, Rautek manoeuvre, transport, helmet removal, airway management. Thermal management – use of an isothermal blanket.
- 2. Bleeding control and bandaging techniques Pressure bandage, use of a rubber tourniquet, bandaging techniques. Improvised bleeding control techniques. Demonstration of tactical aids for bleeding control. Immobilisation techniques.
- 3. Adult resuscitation (BLS - Basic life support), use of AED. Mouth-to-mouth ventilation, face mask with filter. Bag-valve mask, oxygen cylinder, airway adjuncts. Specific conditions in resuscitation: CPR in pregnancy, asphyxia, hypothermia.
- 4. Pediatric resuscitation, childbirth assistance, and newborn care PBLS (pediatric basic life support). Assistance with out-of-hospital delivery, care for the mother during delivery. Care of the physiological newborn and support of postnatal adaptation.
- 5. Simulation scenarios and OSCE training: Training in telephone-assisted first aid. OSCE stations and “mock” practice. Repetition and integration of practical skills in model scenarios.
