- Course objectives
- Aim is intensifying anatomical knowledges of the head and neck with consideration to their clinical use in dental profession. At the end of the course students should be able to:
- apply the correct anatomical nomenclature during the study of head and neck anatomy
- locate and identify the regions and associated surface landmarks of the head and neck on a patient
- integrate the knowledge of the head and neck anatomy into the clinical practice of patient examination and dental radiology
- discuss the clinical applications of the study of the head and neck anatomy by dental professionals
- discuss normal anatomical variation and how it applies to different structures of the head and neck - Learning outcomes
- The student is able, on the basis of detailed knowledge of anatomy and head and neck topography, to understand and explaine the importance of different structures for clinical dental practice.
- Syllabus
- 1. Maxilla and mandible (widespread description, clinical notes.)
- 2. Temporomandibular joint and muscles of mastication (widespread description, clinical notes).
- 3. Basic of craniometry and cephalometry. Radiography of the head
- 4. Functional construction of the skull. Fractures of the skull
- 5. Odontogenic infection pathway.
- 6. Overview of anatomical considerations for local anesthesia.
