Course objectives
The aims of the course are:
to recognize single pharmacotherapeutic drug classes, namely drugs used in urgent states
to understand the basic problems of dosage forms and of drug administration
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows:
single pharmacoterapeutical drug clases
single drug dosage forms
the differences in particular routes of administration of drugs
the modes of action, adverse reactions and basic indications of single drugs
the pharmacotherapy in particular urgent situations
Syllabus
  • 1st lesson: Drug life-cycle: sources, research, and development of new drugs, registration, pharmacovigilance. Legislation on drugs and medical preparations. Information on drugs. Drug databases (SÚKL, AISLP, EMA). Adverse drug reactions.
  • 2nd lesson: Basics of pharmacokinetics. Drug dosage forms and routes of administration.
  • 3rd lesson: Pharmacodynamics. Pharmacology of vegetative nervous system.
  • 4th lesson: Opioid analgesics. NSAIDs. Spasmolytics. Narcotic and psychotropic agents. Test topics 1. - 3.
  • 5th lesson: Pharmacology of GIT - antiulcer drugs.
  • 6th lesson: Antibiotics. Antiseptic agents. Disinfectants.
  • 7th lesson: Pharmacology of cardiovascular system. Drugs affecting blood clotting. Test topics 4. - 6.
  • 8th lesson: Therapy of polytrauma, shock and intoxications.
  • 9th lesson: Antidiabetic medication. Test topics 7. - 8.
  • 10th lesson: Principles of psychopharmacology.
