Course objectives
At the end of this course students have basic knowledge of ethiology of dental caries, its classification and prevention. Students understand relations between other fields of dentistry regarding prevention of caries and periodontal diseases.
Learning outcomes
1. Educational activities in the framework of dental prevention. 2. The importance of preventive care in the field of dental hygiene. 3. Determination of the level of individual hygiene, indices. 4. Medical history, extraoral examination. 5. Initial and control examination of the oral cavity according to ZL indication. In particular: assessment of the periodontal and soft tissue condition, indicative assessment of the dentition and its caries. Prophylaxis of oral cavity diseases. 6. Prophylactic and therapeutic interventions on hard and soft tissues for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. 7. Cancer prevention. 8. Origin, development, prevention and treatment of dental caries. 9. Origin, development, prevention and treatment of necarial lesions. 10. Prevention of soft tissue diseases of the oral cavity. 11. Oral health promotion programs. 12. The dental team. 13. Legislative requirements for the operation of dental hygiene services. Medical documentation. 14. The role of pharmacology in the prevention of oral diseases. 15. Influence of pain and inflammation in the oral cavity. 16. Specific and non-specific antimicrobial therapy. 17. Review of drugs, medical devices and cosmetic products for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. 18. Disinfection. 19. Occupational health. Protecting the health of other patients. 20. Basics of nutrition I.- macronutrients( proteins, fats, carbohydrates), nutritional recommendations. Basics of nutrition II - micronutrients important for hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity), food labelling. Nutritional aspects of dental health (main nutritional factors in dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis), food labelling. Critical reading - evaluation of an article on nutritional issues and dental health.

Assessment methods
Written exam The course is completed in the form of a written test, with at least 70% of the points required to pass it with at least grade E. There are 15 questions in the test. The student chooses from the options, with only one being correct, or actively answers the question. The test takes 30 minutes to complete. After this time the test is automatically closed. The teacher has no possibility to interfere with the time limit.
