Course objectives
The aim is to study the issue and the scientific field of speech therapy, introduces students to the principles of communication and ontogenesis of children's speech. In the course will present key findings of individual forms of communication disorders.
Learning outcomes
Basic insight into the issues of speech therapy, current possibilities of speech therapy support and legislative measures related to speech therapy, the process of speech therapy intervention, target groups of clients, interdisciplinary cooperation. Introduction to the most common forms of speech and language development disorders in preschool age.
Syllabus
1. Concept and system of care in the field of speech therapy in the Czech Republic, interdisciplinary cooperation. Speech therapist, speech therapy assistant - qualification and personality requirements. Current legislation and historical development of care for people with NKS. 2. Human communication process, characteristics, meaning. Verbal communication, nonverbal communication. Definition of language levels. Impaired communication ability - definition, various divisions and classification. 3. Speech therapy intervention - definition of individual areas and special pedagogical speech therapy diagnostics - goal, methods, principles of diagnostics. Model of speech therapy examination. 4. Ontogenesis of speech and language abilities. Factors influencing the development of speech and language abilities. Deficits in the development of speech and language abilities in children. 5. Phonetics, subject of phonetics research, basic elements of spoken speech. System of Czech sounds, formation of individual sounds. 6. Anatomy and physiology of speech organs – respiratory, phonatory, articulatory systems. 7. Articulatory (and phonological) disorder – definition, etiology, classification, diagnostics, principles of speech therapy. Methodology of sound extraction. 8. Developmental language disorder (developmental dysphasia) – definition, etiology, symptomatology, procedures used in speech therapy intervention. Possibilities of including children with developmental language disorders in the educational process
