Abstract
The aim of the course is to be able to define the specifics of care for individuals with hearing impairments from birth to the end of life. Students will learn to navigate the options for diagnosing hearing loss; identify typical deviations in speech development in children with hearing impairments; explain difficulties in reading comprehension in individuals with prelingual hearing loss and understand the specific features of their written expression; and become familiar with the various forms of communication used by people with hearing impairments.
Learning outcomes
Outputs expected: The student can define the basic concepts of the field of surdopedics (education and support for individuals with hearing impairments); Can describe the specifics of care for individuals with hearing impairments; Is familiar with the history of care for individuals with hearing impairments; Can explain the importance of hearing in everyday life; Understands the structure of the auditory system; Can explain the most common causes of hearing impairment and the factors that negatively affect the development of the auditory system; Is familiar with the process of hearing loss diagnosis; Can describe the stages of speech development in individuals with hearing impairments; Is familiar with various communication systems used by people with hearing impairments.
