Course objectives
In the compulsorily-optional subject English for Special Educators, students will consolidate their language skills on B1 level and will develop some academic skills in English (specialist oral presentation, giving and supporting arguments, discussion, etc). This course is mainly focused on developing specialist vocabulary connected to the field of study, i.e. Special Needs Education.
Syllabus
  • SP4BK_CJA1 English as a Foreign Language
  • Consultation 1: Course introduction, exam requirements; Introduction to the conception of language study at the Faculty of Education, MU; Brief introduction to language competencies according to CEFR (reflecting the needs and requirements of the course). Introduction to Special Needs Terminology.
  • Consultation 2: Hearing Impairment.Visual Impairment.
  • Consultation 3: Speech Impairment. Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Consultation 4: Physical Impairment. Specific Learning Difficulties.
  • Consultation 5: Integration, Inclusion. Oral presentations.
  • Grammar (self-study): Revision of tenses (present simple x continuous, past simple x continuous, present perfect, expressing of future), revision of comparative, superlative, passive, prepositions of time, phrasal verbs, adjectives ending in –ed or –ing, revision of modal verbs, conditionals.

Teaching methods
Activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, presentation and soft skills practice, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments,etc.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 1) Active participation in the consultations (2 absences are admitted), 2) Careful preparation for each consultation (preparing tasks in Home-preparation section of each handout for the particular consultations), 3) Oral presentation (8-10 min. long, introducing yourself, your field of study, your profession + summary of an English article connected to the field of study)- it is necessary to submit the draft of your presentation to ODEVZDÁVÁRNA by the date given in sylabus!,4)Final test (70% passmark).

Information on completion of the course: Pro úspěšné ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly. Jazykový kurz není určen pro začátečníky.
The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2k, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru, test na úrovni A2 složí v lednu, a poté absolvuje předmět SP4BK_CJAJ v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
