- Abstract
- The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic insight into the topic of mental health and otherness in the context of inclusive education and society. The course develops an understanding of the relationship between norm and difference, provides an overview of mental illnesses and disorders, and addresses opportunities for mental health promotion, wellness, and self-care in professional life. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and a sensitive approach to people with different forms of difference, including neurodivergence.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, student will be able to: 1.Distinguish between the basic concepts of norm, difference, disability, and mental illness and understand them in the context of inclusive education. 2.Reflect on mental health as a continuum and understand the meaning of terminology and approaches to difference in society and school settings. 3. Identify the causes and manifestations of mental illness and navigate a basic overview of mental illness, including the most common mental disorders. 4.Apply approaches to mental health promotion, wellbeing, and working with emotions with students and educators*women. 5.Collaborate with professionals*s (psychologist, psychiatrist, special educator) and develop competencies for sustainable practice in the helping profession, including self-care and burnout prevention.

- In the case of a intership and study abroad, the course can be taken in its regular form. The final test can be taken online in a normal way with others, the learner is able to complete the conditions remotely. Materials and detailed instructions can be found in the interactive syllabus.

Self-assessment outcomes:
1. I can identify signs of impaired mental health in children or adolescents in a model case study.
2. I can describe psychosocial and cultural factors influencing an individual’s mental health in a specific case.
3. I can reflect on my attitudes toward difference and mental illness and explain how they may affect my work with students.
Requirements for successful course completion:
1. Submit the interactive literature review “From Study to Practice” (both parts) by the specified deadline, usually at the end of the semester.
2. Pass the online test in the Information System (IS): 15–17 questions , minimum 75% required to pass , combination of open-ended questions and questions with one or more correct answers , time-limite.
