- Course objectives
- The course is to make the student familiar with basic principles of the ethnocartographic method which makes it possible to learn about and present the spatial distribution of researched cultural phenomena.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the student will be able to identify basic development stages of ethnocartography in the context of ethnological research in the Czech and European environments; he/she will be informed about important personalities, projects (ethnographical atlases) and methodological procedures. He/she will acquire practical skills associated with the application of ethnocartographic method.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction; basic terms.
- 2. Early development stages of ethnocartography.
- 3. Atlas projects in Europe and the former Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.
- 4. Basic methods of ethnocartography, ways of receiving the source data.
- 5. Practical section – research with the purpose to collect data, and their transfer to ethno-cartogram.
