- Course objectives
- The lecture series aims to acquaint students with the issues of ethnic and regional identity of the Greek and German minorities in the Czech lands.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student is able to identify and describe the basic concepts related to the issue of ethnic and regional identity. The student will be able to apply theoretical knowledge to specific examples of Greek and German minorities.
- Syllabus
- 1. Basic concepts (concepts of ethnic and regional identity, ethnic theories and ethnicity). 2.Language, culture, migration. 3. German minority and German language islands in Moravia, specifics of individual language islands and the topic of ethnic identity of Germans. 4. Cultural, educational and other German associations in Moravia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their origin, existence and role in society - their influence on the formation and consolidation of ethnic identity. 5. The Greek minority in what was then Czechoslovakia and today's Czech Republic - history (reasons for the arrival of the Greek ethnic group in our territory, the integration of the Greeks into the majority society, the repatriation of the Greeks back to their homeland, the situation of the minority after 1989). 6. Social life of the (Brno) Greek community - Greek associations and their activities (history and present), activities of individuals themselves within the Greek community.
