Course objectives
The course offers information on the historical evolution of entertainment and pastimes in Japan from ancient history till present day. Because the course is also open to students with no education on Japan and its history, short historical introductions to the eras in question will be provided at the beginning of each lecture. After the historical introduction, individual pastimes and forms of entertainment will be introduced. The course offers not only information useful to understand the Japanese entertainment culture but it also presents its students with a new perspective to view Japanese history. The lectures are supplemented with rich audiovisual materials.
Learning outcomes
Upon finishing this course, the students will be able: -to identify and describe many of the forms of entertaiment from Japanese history -to understand individual forms and entertainment in the broader context of Japanese culture -to see the connections between Japanese history and its entertainment

Teaching methods
Lectures with the use of audiovisual materials. Periodic online tasks.
Assessment methods
Written test. Score of 60% or higher required. In order to be able to take the text, students need to have an at least 70% attendance which is taken in the form of periodic tasks.
