Course objectives
The aim of the course is to prepare the students theoretically and particularly practically for the basic situations when the interpreting practice is expected, which means for interpreting uncomplicated language oration from/to the foreign language without preparations, and for interpreting more difficult texts. The course has an active form for students to have an opportunity to try interpreting in model situation.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student:
- can distinguish singular kinds of interpreting and know their specifics
- is familiar with rules of interpreter’s performance and basic ethical principles of his work
- deal with interpreting uncomplicated text from/to the foreign language
- manage to prepare for consecutive interpretating more difficult topics
- deal with principles of interpreting notation
- is ready to use specific language tools (syntax, lexicon) while interpreting from/to the foreign language.
Syllabus
  • The course is mainly focused on following topics:
  • - Basic types of interpreting
  • - Specifics of consecutive and cabin interpreting
  • - Ethical principles of interpreter
  • - Interpreting notation
  • - Principles of preparing for sight interpreting
  • - Practical training of consecutive interpreting from/to the foreign language
  • - Using model situations for active learning
