Course objectives
Students will acquire linguistic competence in Russian in order to be able to assist migrants as intercultural workers or community interpreters, especially when dealing with authorities, NGOs and non-profit organizations, social and health care institutions, or to be able to work as HR managers in companies employing Russian-speaking foreigners.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the students will be able to:
master key vocabulary in Russian related to a foreigner's stay in the Czech Republic,
translate correctly some types of documents from Czech into Russian and from Russian into Czech using dictionaries and up-to-date information resources.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Community interpreting. Activities of a community interpreter and intercultural worker.
  • 2. Status of the foreigner and the applicant for international protection. Activities of the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy.
  • 3. Accommodation of a foreigner.
  • 4. Insurance of a foreigner.
  • 5. Health care. Basic concepts of health care. Sick leave.
  • 6. Education in the Czech Republic.
  • 7. Social security system.
  • 8. Work and employment. Employment contracts.
  • 9. Business, and trade licensing offices.
  • 10. Tax authorities and taxes.
  • 11. Banks. Opening a bank account in the Czech Republic.
