Course objectives
The proseminar acquaints students with basic methodological processes. The main objectives of the course are the following: familiarity with principles of research, how students should treat the subject of their research, how to read expert literature, quote correctly and use it for one's own written work.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student is able to:
- to define the theme of the proseminar work
- to define the question to be followed in the work
- to define the goals of the proseminar work
- on the topic choose professional literature
- to develop annotation and work outline

  • 3. formulation of one's own hypotheses
  • 4. cultivation of defining thinking and expert speech
  • 5. choice of literature and principles of its elaboration

Assessment methods
Course completion requirements:
- participation in  5 two-hour blocks of instruction
- submission of specified assignments as assigned in ELF:
1. "battle game" on the topic of libraries
2. work with literature: direct quotation, paraphrase
3. proposal of the topic of the proseminar paper and literature
4. definition of the subject and aim of the proseminar paper and a list of literature with commentary
Test: citation standard, formal requirements, required readings
Náhradní absolvování
In the case of a study abroad, it is possible to take the course: the student will be in written contact with the teacher, the course will be written down, the required assignments will be completed in ELF during the semester, the presentation of the topic will take place online.

In the first weeks of the proseminar, students will get acquainted with the basic requirements for the preparation of a proseminar thesis, with the rules of writing theses binding at the Institute of Higher Education, with the citation standard and electronic information resources (before the lecture on EIZ, please read the material on the topic embedded in the ELF). In the second half of the semester, the proseminar will be devoted to the choice of the topic of the proseminar paper and the selection of appropriate sources. Pavla Martinkova's lecture on Electronic Information Resources (EIRs) will take place on Monday, October 21, 2024; attendance is REQUIRED.
