Course objectives
Introduction in the ethnologic and linguistic development and contemporary situation of the Australia and Oceania. Students should get orientation in ethno- and glottogonic processes of the Indo-Pacific regions.
Syllabus
  • 1. Physical geography of the area. 2. Political arrangment of the area; demographic situation. 3. History of the area. 4. Physical anthropology of the population of the area. 5. Survey of the language units 5.1. Australian (aboriginal). 5.2. Indo-Pacific. 5.3. Austronesian.

Teaching methods
Linguistic, anthropological and historical introduction of a teacher, followed by presentation of individual languages according to own choice by students.

Description of grammatical structure of a chosen language of the area in both oral and written form.
