Course objectives
The aim of the course Literary translation is the application of theoretical knowledge of appropriate translation techniques to translate a particular text. In the seminar part of the course students will apply acquired knowledge on their own translation of the relevant texts from French into Czech.
Syllabus
  • 1st bibliography of texts for translation 2nd familiarization with the appropriate translation techniques in the translation of the text, defining of the problem areas 3rd translations of specific texts and analysis

Teaching methods
Familiarization with the theoretical problems of translation of literary text. Translation of texts from French into Czech. Analysis of specific texts translated, defining translation techniques. Application of acquired knowledge on authentic texts.
Assessment methods
Final written exam - literary text. Condition for admission to the examination is active participation in seminar and continuous production of the specified translations.
