In order to be enrolled in the course, students must have passed the course Introduction to Counselling within the study program of Social Pedagogy and Counselling, or Introduction to Counselling Seminar within the Magister’s cycle of the study program of Social Pedagogy and Counselling.

Course objectives
The course presents the context of Career counselling in the worldwide context and it focuses on counselling process guidance. Students are introduced in theories of career choice and development (Parsons, Holland, Schein and Super) and possibilities of counselling process guidance according to the type of the activity the counselling process focuses on – information providing, choice support, and career planning support. The aim of the course is to present to students the possibilities of counselling process guidance in the field o career counselling and to teach students how to prepare and explain a personal type of counselling process guidance.

  • 1. Characteristics of and trends in career counselling development. 2. Theories of career choice and development (e.g. Parsons, Holland, Schein, Super, constructivist approaches). 3. Career information and how to use it (career information sources, standards for career information systems, and information sources in the Czech Rep.). 4. Career counselling process (guidance and counselling, aims, stage, creativity in the proces) 5. Career assessment, diagnostics and testing as parts of career counselling process 6. Career education as parts of career counselling process (models of the career education in the Czech Rep., international inspiration) 7. Career counselling services in Europe (their organization, selected results of evaluation, and principles for further development).
