Prerequisites
At the end of the semester students will be able * to formulate their own apprehension in the reflexion on media art. * to recognize the influences which affected these media art works * to analyze particular works of media artist according to their position in media art history * to evaluate the contribution of the key works from the history to the development of media art.

Course objectives
The course based on screeing of visual breakthroughs of the new media history which have influenced the further development of 20th century art. The new media archeology method reveals the most significant influences of the historical movements on the digital art of the 21st century.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: recognize significant artworks from the history of media art interpret the content and meaning of these works in the context of their impact on contemporary art analyze the strategies of their creation within the characteristics of historical movements evaluate the impact of different technologies on the development of new media art understand the basal difference between analog and digital media

Assessment methods
Expected final work: 1. Practical output: create an audiovisual, which shows students´ acquired knowledge. 2. Theoretical text (2 standard pages), which contains: a description of the work, the intention, a description, the concept, the strategies and working techniques. Assignment: Based on the demonstrations of different artistic practices and strategies, create your own audiovisual work – remake of the older work of art. Use current technological options (video editing software available) to remake historical practices, ideas and strategies. The aim is the ability to express ideas not only with theoretical texts, but also with their own audio-visual creation. When choosing a strategy, the listener can use one of the strategies defined by Nicolas Bourriaud in his publication: Postproduction (2004). Evaluation: Formal coherence with works of historical works of art Appropriate reasoning and expertise in the accompanying text Aesthetics of final audiovisual work
