- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to put the student into contact with the main text types (description, narration, exposition, instruction, argumentation) following E. Werlich's distinction. The course is aimed at developing an articulate awareness of the main themes of sentence syntax (simple and complex) and its relationship to textuality.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able to - identify the different text types and genres; - write different kind of text types; - use appropriate syntax and lexis.
- Syllabus
- The course is structured into in-person lessons and online activities on the ELF platform. The in-person lessons involve workshop-style activities: analysis, production, and correction of short written texts, including translation products. Online activities: students will find all instructions, guidelines, and exercises in the "Italiano scritto" course on ELF. Students have access to video tutorials and more than 50 activities focused on reading, analysis, and writing. Materials: articles and supplementary materials provided before and during the lessons. Programme activities, i.e., lectures that are common to the whole programme, are also to be included in the course content. On these occasions, other activities (including regular classes) will be suspended. Matteo Di Figlia (University of Palermo), Seminars on ‘Il fascismo italiano: 1919-1943’ (Teaching materials will be provided prior to the seminars) The full calendar of activities will be communicated at the beginning of the semester.

- Teaching methods
- The study and working materials will include articles from contemporary Italian national press, books, and video interviews. Through in-class reading and discussion, these materials will serve as a means to introduce and explain typical expressions and structures found in descriptive, argumentative, narrative, and expository texts (particularly journalistic ones), with the aim of developing summarization skills (with a focus on summary writing) and paraphrasing.
- Assessment methods
- Active and cohoperative attendance is mandatory (at least 75%). The student has to complete the ELF online course before the semester finishes (at least two weeks before the end of the semester). Final written text (2 hours).
