Course objectives
International migration and changes in ethnocultural profile have become important issues for both ethnologists and cultural anthropologists. The subjects of the studies are structure of the popullation, behaviour of individuals and groups, values and ideals in the society that influence architecture, urbanism and character of cities and also local economic activities and international relations. The cycle of lectures in autumn semester will focus on migration to the Czech Republic and position of particular institutions that focus their activities on work with foreigners. Representatives of the Public Defender of Human Rights or Council for the Rights of Foregners; non-for-profit organisations or centers for integration of minorities and asylum centers will lead students through everyday work of these institutions. The lectures are part of the project “Students to Foreigners“.
Syllabus
  • All the papers of students will provide a base for a study that will be offered for publishing not only to science magazines but also in electronic version to the representatives of individual institutions and non-for-profit organisations as practical experience with dealnig with authorities, life stories of imigrants and their motivation for coming to the Czech Republic, understanding their way of life and culture of these migrants or practical advice for foreigners in both Czech and English. All of this backed by the student project “Students to Foreigners“.
