Course objectives
After completing the course students will understand issues of social services provision in the Czech Republic, specifically in the area of social counseling. They will be able to explain basic principles of providing social counseling, including legislative background of the field. In addition, they will be able to theorize the field through postmodern counseling theory. They will also be able to distinguish different target groups of social counseling and select appropriate interventions and actions as well as understand both qualitative and quantitative evaluation tools that are applied within social counseling.

  • 1. Introduction of social services with an emphasis on counseling area, incl. historical development in the area 2. A principle of social counseling and legal framework 3. Postmodern counseling theories 4. Standards of social counseling services 5. Specifics of social counseling services aimed at target group of the unemployed / at risk of poverty, homelessness 6. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of seniors 7. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of ethnic minorities 8. Specifics of social counseling services for the target group of sick and disabled people 9. Counseling in the penitentiary area 10. Monitoring and evaluation of social services
