Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of Italian and to develop the vocabulary, communicative and grammar competencies (level B1 CEFR).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- understand explained vocabulary;
- use the vocabulary in spoken and written language;
- explain and apply grammar discussed in seminars;
- apply the acquired competencies in the final exam: use grammar rules acquired during the seminar I - IV and speak about an issue concerning Italian history, geography and culture.

  • I + II WEEK
  • Skills. How to: give instructions; collaborate; request information.
  • Lexicon. Do-it-yourself and moving.
  • Grammar. Combined pronouns, indefinite pronouns and adjectives; verbal prefixation.

  • III + IV WEEK
  • Skills. How to: understand the instructions, give step-by-step instructions.
  • Lexicon. Sustainable development, cooking.
  • Grammar. Structures that demand subordinate clauses with the subjunctive, the impersonal SI, the partitive NE.

  • V ~ + VI WEEK
  • Skills. How to: describe objects; make and propose hypotheses.
  • Lexicon. Adjectives that can be used in descriptions.
  • Grammar. Periphrastic expressions of the incoative phase of the action; other cases of subordinate clauses in the subjunctive; causal connectives.

  • VII + VIII WEEK
  • Skills. How to: tell past events; describe moods; compare data.
  • Lexicon. Families of today; adverbs of time.
  • Grammar. Aspects of the concordance of the tenses; relative pronouns; causal subordinates.

  • IX + X WEEK
  • Skills. To advise or discourage; to clarify; to report other people's speeches.
  • Lexicon. Care for the body and the psyche.
  • Grammar. Hypothetical phrases with the apodosis to the future.

  • Skills. How to express emotions and react with empathy.
  • Lexicon. Emotions and empathy.
  • Grammar. Choice of the auxiliary in the compound tenses of servile verbs; use of the anterior future; CI and LO in anaphora.

  • XIII WEEK: exam preparation.

  • REVIEW. Each week, part of the exercises carried out by the students at home will be devoted to the revision of the morphology. In case students find it difficult to do some, the teacher will create space to repeat the topic in class.

Teaching methods
The student has to deliver 3 essays (ca. 100 to 200 words) and 3 traductions (ca. 120 to 180 words) in Italian during the semester. He will also present in class one of the topics planned for the end of year exam. Attendance and participation in the course is required.
Assessment methods
Written and oral examination online (in the written part successful for almost 70 %) aimed at testing the language skills according to the A2/B1 level of the Common European reference frame.
