- Abstract
- This literary-historical seminar in the bachelor study cycle is conceived in connection with a lecture on Czech literature of the 19th century. The content of the seminar will be reading and interpretation of selected works of Czech 19th century literature (the time frame is set at the end of the 18th century and dates back to the first decade of the 20th century). Emphasis will be placed on the placement of the interpreted works in the contemporary literary context, on familiarization with the key features of the dominant forms of literacy present in the time-varying literary field. It will also take into account the contemporary reception of selected works and their later literary-historical appreciation. In addition to canonical works, works of conventional and trivial excavation will also be mentioned. In interpreting the texts, emphasis will be placed on the application of the knowledge gained in propedeutically and literaristically oriented subjects (Introduction to Literature Studies).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to: make the selection of primary sources in convenient publications (critical ones) and the orientation in secondary sources as well as their independent work. At the end of the course students should be able to:
- enlarge their knowledge of issues concerning the 19th century of Czech literature;
- are familiar with specialized literature and methodology; - check their interpretative skills;
- are familiar with basic findings and methodological procedures of related disciplines;
- are able to apply acquired knowledge and skills when creating scientific texts. - Key topics
- This course is based on the interpretations of selected Czech works of poetry, fiction and drama written at the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century. Literary-theoretical knowledge and skills will be deepened and used to better comprehension of the literary-historical background in the 19th century. Special attention will be paid to issues of transformation of various genres and dominant literary styles and tendencies; period literary critical receptions will be also mentioned. Reflections of literature on the subject are part of the course.
