Prerequisites

The course is intended exclusively for students who have submitted a binding application for a stay under the Erasmus+ programme or who have already been awarded such a stay. Before the start of the semester, students are required to provide confirmation or a screenshot proving the submission of the application or the allocation of the stay. The course is not intended for graduates of the Polish language courses PJ_03 and PJ_04.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge of the Polish language that will enable students to communicate effectively in everyday situations during their Erasmus stay in Poland, particularly in academic settings and daily life.
Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student:

  • understands and uses basic everyday expressions and simple sentences,

  • can introduce themselves and others, and ask and answer simple questions,

  • is able to handle basic communication at the university (timetable, lecturers, studies),

  • can manage basic everyday situations (shopping, restaurants, transport, accommodation),

  • has a basic understanding of Polish culture and the academic environment in Poland.

Syllabus

1.       Welcome to Poland! – greetings, introductions, nationality, personal information.

2.       Restaurant and shopping – food, drinks, prices, placing orders.

3.       City and transport – means of transport, city orientation, asking for directions.

4.       Accommodation – finding a room, apartment facilities, housing problems.

5.       Daily life – everyday activities, telling time, days of the week.

6.       Health and assistance – visiting a doctor, pharmacy, emergency situations.

7.       Leisure time – hobbies, free-time activities, inviting.

8.       Polish culture and holidays – traditions, holidays, social behavior.

9.       At the university – campus orientation, faculties, timetable, academic communication.

10.  Plans for the future – future tense, dreams, holiday plans, goals, course summary.

Teaching methods
The course is taught using a communicative approach focused on developing language competences necessary for everyday and academic communication. Teaching methods include work with dialogues and functional texts, lexical and grammatical exercises, simulations of communicative situations (role-play), individual work, as well as pair and group work. The teaching process also incorporates authentic language materials and e-learning elements supporting students’ independent study.
Assessment methods
Active participation in classes. A maximum of two unexcused absences is allowed. A minimum of 70% of the total points in the written test is required to pass.
