Course objectives
The course in Mineral Exploration Geochemistry is designed to provide professionals and graduate students with both a refresher in geochemical prospecting methods and advanced knowledge in interpreting multi-element geochemical datasets to aid the mapping of mineral systems and regional geology.
Syllabus
  • Mineral Exploration Geochemistry (24.-25.11.2016). Lecturer: Benedikt Steiner (Xpolore.Global, Camborne School of Mines) In the past decade multi-element trace geochemical analyses have become affordable to commercial explorers. The use of trace element geochemistry has since then advanced considerably and provides the modern explorer nowadays with an extremely valuable tool to explore under cover. 1. Exploration Geochemistry I: Surface Prospecting - ROLE OF SAMPLING IN MINERAL EXPLORATION - SOIL SURVEYS - LITHOGEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS - GLACIAL TILL SURVEYS - STREAM SEDIMENT SURVEYS - OTHER (SPECIALISED) SURVEYS 2. Exploration Geochemistry II Sampling, QAQC and Analytical Geochemistry - ROLE OF SAMPLING IN MINERAL EXPLORATION - QAQC - EXPLORATION & ANALYTICAL GEOCHEMISTRY 3. Exploration Geochemistry III: Applications & Examples
