Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to understand the fundamentals of work with geological modelling software Leapforg Geo (ARANZ Geo Limited). The software has applications in many practical geological disciplines – economic geology, mining industry, structural geology, geothermal modelling and else.
Learning outcomes
The output of the course will be completed 3D geological and deposit models and options for displaying them in the form of profiles or animations.
Syllabus
  • Introductory session
  • Introduction of the software environment
  • Working with data, data import
  • Creation of a simple geological model, topography creation, dynamic updating, combining models, weathering model
  • Creation of geological model based on GIS data (SHP files)
  • Creation of geological model based on structural data (tectonic measurements of lithology contacts)
  • Creation of geological model the Stratigraphic sequence function
  • Modeling a complex geological and deposit (resource estimation) model (3-4 lessons).

Teaching methods
Lecture, practical independent exercises on computers
Assessment methods
Credit awarded based on mandatory attendance at exercises and presentation of fully completed 3D models.
Náhradní absolvování
In case of absence from several classes, it is necessary to complete the models according to the teaching materials, tutorial, and consultations with teachers.

Students will need an external hard drive or flash drive with a minimum capacity of 2 GB. Work on 3D modeling can be done either on computers in the classroom or on students' own laptops.
