Cíle předmětu
The course will focus on aspects of Irish literature in English and their cultural context, focusing primarily on works and writers from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in order to examine ways in which they challenge and develop aspects of nationalism, imperialism, language, social and cultural identity and, in particular, ethics and aesthetics.This semester's course will focus on the work of W.B. Yeats, J.M. Synge,and James Joyce approaching the texts selected through a combination of close reading and discussion in class and culminating in an analytical essay.

Výukové metody
The course wil be co-taught by two teachers employing a methodology focusing on seminar discussion, close reading and the relation of textual analysis to the braoder context of social, political and aesthetic concerns.
Metody hodnocení
The course wil be assessed by a combination of class contribution (40%) and essay (5-7 pages)(60%).Please note that the essay is an exam and that you need to register for it.
