The thesis discusses the linguistic diversity of the United Kingdom. The dissertation is divided into two parts – theoretical and analytical. The theoretical part begins with the history of the English language, presenting influences and events that formed varieties of English used across the Kingdom nowadays. Zadání práce
The thesis will include information about some of the most spoken accents and dialects in the United Kingdom as well as information about standard British and their evolution. It will also include a study made on two groups of respondents - one of which will be people born in the US and the other people born in the Czech republic with at least B2 language level. They will listen to a chosen accent and RP English and will answer questions about their understanding and more.
