This Master’s thesis deals with the production of the selected English suprasegmental features, namely weak forms and linking by Czech and Russian speakers. This study is an extension of my previous research which focused on the errors made by Czech and Russian speakers on the segmental level. The present research follows up the connection between the respondents’ mother tongue and their ability to produce the chosen features of the English language. Additionally, it focuses on the influence of speakers’ levels of proficiency in English on their pronunciation quality. The theoretical part of this thesis introduces the suprasegmental features of English, Russian and Czech determined by the scope of the present study. It also suggests the possible outcomes of the research. As for the practical part, first, it presents the results of my Bachelor’s thesis. Second, it offers the analysis of the 24 respondents’ recordings. The primary aim of this research is to compare pronunciation of Czech and Russian speakers on the suprasegmental level of English. The secondary aim is to find out whether the levels of proficiency in English have any impact on the quality of speakers’ pronunciation.
