Abstract

This work focuses on the notion of the term dialect from the point of view of translation theories, linguistics and sociology. This project provides a description of how the theories of translation deal with the issue of dialect translating. After covering this theoretical ground, there is a further analysis of the real dialect translation solutions. The translating strategies adopted by translators for this purpose are investigated. The data gathered for the analysis of the practical solutions are limited to the selected source language texts (extracts from English literary works containing dialect), which have already been translated into Czech as a target language (with one exception of a Slovak extract). …víceméně
