This diploma thesis examines the effect of translation experience on participants’ translation process. It borrows methodological concepts from previous translation-process researchers such as Carl, Kay, Dragsted, Alves, Hvelplund and others, and utilizes eye-tracking and keystroke-logging technology. In essence, the aim of this thesis is empirically proving that translators with more years of translation experience translate more efficiently than their less experienced peers. This efficiency is measured by the time they need to finish translating, number and length of their fixations, the amount of attention switching from the source-text window and the target text window, their text production events per minute, and their total text production and deletion events. Even though all hypotheses were confirmed, many of them were based solely on eye-tracking data, which was unfortunately distorted by undesirable noise and artifacts. The researcher has conducted research into possible causes of this noise and hopes his findings will help future researchers at HUME Lab at Masaryk University.
