Course objectives
The course builds on courses like Marketing, Management, Corporate Economics, and others, and it focuses on operational tasks connected with the process of value creation in the manufacturing and service sector.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
-interpret the role of operations in the process of value creation;
-explain the linkages between the strategic, tactical and operational level of company management connected to the operation processes;
- design simple production processes and apply the basic methods used in this field;
- able to evaluate the alignment between the production process design and the corporate strategy
-explain the various concepts and tools used by management in production process that relates to digital economy (Industry 4.0, Internet of things);
-compare quality management systems applied within companies and quality assurance mechanisms on a national and international scale;
-illustrate how operations relates to other business functions;
- be able to apply methods and tehniques of quality management within production processes in manufacturing and services;
- understand the character and nature of quality management system based on ISO 9000;
- know economics of quality management and various models and measures of quality costs.

Teaching methods
The course has a form of tutorials, where the concepts of Operations management are explained in a discussion with students. The application of methods and instruments will be demonstrated on examples. During the semester there are 2 seminar works to submit on chosen topic from the two parts of the course - Operations processes and Quality management (if no different information is given by teachers at the beginning of the semester).
Assessment methods
The course finished with a written exam. The minimal points required to pass the test is 60 per cent. Students can take the exam provided that she/he prepared semester papers on a given topic.
Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
