Prerequisites
In the compulsorily-optional English as a Foreign Language Course A, the students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school, and will learn some selected academic skills (oral presentation, discussion, supporting an argument ) in English. Successful students will be credited for active participation in the lessons, for oral and written presentations and for Summary Presentation at the end of the semester.

Course objectives

  • SZ7BP_1AB1 Cizí jazyk A - jazyk anglický Semester 1 1.Education in the Czech Republic compared with the U.K. and U.S. systems. Text 1. (Making a statement, arguing the point, a discussion based on the experience) Weeks 1-3 2. Growing up, growing old. Adolescence. Adulthood. Ageing. Text 12.(Opinion exchange. Critical thinking. Essay writing) Weeks 4-6 3. 21st century problems - environment, drug abuse, wars, terrorism, and others. Text 6. (Survey. Presentation. Problem solving.) Weeks 7-9 4. Healthy lifestyle. Mind, body, health and sports. Text 4. (Personal experience and reflection. Key information, summarizing) Weeks 10-12 Special task: My field of study. Text 2. (Introduction - previous studies, basic information on Masaryk University and the Faculty of Education) Weeks 1-12 Credit requirements: Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže získat kredity, ani zápočet! The student who has not completed continuous assessments during the particular semester can not be credited. Summary presentation: The end-of-the-term summary presentation based on the special task.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Practical language course. Oral presentations. End-of-semester presentation. Pro ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly (ustni prezentace, pisemne ukoly, atd.) jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení. Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže získat kredity, ani zápočet!
