Prerequisites
This course is intended for teachers and educational staff who were educated at foreign universities where the language of instruction was not Czech.

Abstract
The course shall to cultivate:
- the ability to read Czech text with good pronunciation;
- the ability to understand Czech text;
- the ability to write Czech without orthographical mistakes;
- using correct grammatical form of verbs, substantives and other flective words, the ability to use the correct grammatical form in own texts;
- Czech speaking on various topic;
- the ability to write Czech texts that are important for teachers: news, information for parents, explanation.
Learning outcomes
It is presupposed that the graduate of the course:
- can speak literary Czech on various topics fluently;
- can understand Czech text and retell its content;
- can write consistent text by literary Czech;
- can use the Czech when teaching and in the everyday communication.
The students learn, too:
- fundamental knowledge on the Czech republic today, on the Czech scholarship and on the Czech history.

1. Information about the Czech Republic
A. Reading texts about the Czech Republic (information about interesting places in individual regions: famous cities, cultural monuments, etc.)


B.  Listening to texts about interesting places in the Czech Republic

a) Answering questions about the text read/heard, filling in information from the text; conversation
b) Lexical exercises related to the texts (filling in synonymous expressions, finding synonyms in the text, etc.)
c) Word formation exercises related to the text (using vocabulary from the text)
d) Grammar and spelling exercises related to the text


C. a) The school system in the students' country and in the Czech Republic – primary, secondary, and higher education (comparison)

b) Opportunities for study and professional education in the students' country and in the Czech Republic (comparison)

During contact hours, spoken communication is preferred, and grammatical correctness, fluency, and pronunciation are monitored.

a) Derivation of nouns and adjectives using suffixes

Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
The examination consists of written part and oral part.

I. The written exam consists of: 1. a) a grammar test; b) a spelling test; c) a word formation task; d) a lexical exercise;   e) a short test covering information about the Czech Republic today and Czech history. 2.  answering questions about the attached text; 3. writing a short coherent text based on one of five given topics  (minimum length 100 words).

II. The oral examination is based on responses in a dialogue according to predetermined topics. The topics of the oral examination are provided in the first section of the interactive syllabus.
