Students take the Exam in Latin Grammar after the second year, if they have successfully completed all requirements of and acquired the credit for Latin Grammar IV (LJBcA04).

Course objectives
Main objectives of the exam can be summarized as follows:
to test the profound knowledge of Latin normative grammar, especially the morphology;
to show understanding and capability of analysis of the Latin text.
Syllabus
  • The Exam in Latin Grammar consists of written and oral part which are taken in the same examination period. The exam tests:
  • 1) Active knowledge of the Latin normative grammar as explained in František Novotný, Základní latinská mluvnice, Praha 1957 (and later editions), volumes 1 and 2.
  • 2) Thorough erudition in the prescribed reading selection - Sallustius: Catilinae coniuratio.
  • The written test is aimed at noun and verb morphology, especially the irregular verbs, irregular comparison of adjectives and adverbs, morphological exceptions of the declensions and the numerals. The student proceeds to the oral part after succesfully passing the written test.

Assessment methods
Individual study, reading and consultation. The exam consists of written test and oral examining from Sallustius (see above).
