Students take the Exam in Latin Grammar after the second year, if they have successfully completed all requirements of and acquired the credit for Latin Grammar IV (LJBcA04).

Course objectives
Main objectives of the exam can be summarized as follows:
the student will be able to demonstrate the profound knowledge of Latin normative grammar, especially in the field of morphology, will apply grammatical rules and their exceptions; Can use correctly the latin irregular verbs.
The student will demonstrate understanding and capability of analysis of the Latin text.This capability is tested on reading and translating Catilinae Coniuratio by Sallustius.
Syllabus
  • The Exam in Latin Grammar consists of written and oral part which are taken in the same examination period. The exam tests:
  • 1) Active knowledge of the Latin normative grammar as explained in František Novotný, Základní latinská mluvnice, Praha 1957 (and later editions), volumes 1 and 2.
  • 2) Thorough erudition in the prescribed reading selection - Sallustius: Catilinae coniuratio.
  • The written test is aimed at noun and verb morphology, especially the irregular verbs, irregular comparison of adjectives and adverbs, morphological exceptions of the declensions and the numerals. The student proceeds to the oral part after succesfully passing the written test.
